The Bell, Beckingham Street, Tolleshunt Major, Essex, CM9 8LL
aka The Beckingham Bell, a Grays pub tucked way in the countryside SE of Tiptree, with relatively new mine hosts.
We popped in on a Sunday in January 2016. Nicely kept inside, not altogether sure about the 50s/60s music! We sat in the conservatory overlooking a big duck pond, around which there was a variety of wildlife – pheasants, grebe, squirrels, and behind a fence, some lesser spotted overwintering caravans. The Sunday roast was great, rare beef and humungous crispy roast potatoes, with a bit of attention given to the parsnips and carrots, which isn’t always the case. The one of us who had the spiced apple and ginger pudding (I won’t say who it was) assured me it was lovely.
Beerwise, there was Maldon Brewing’s ‘Pucks Folly’ (in good form), GK IPA, Doom Bar, and Betty Stogs.
