Only about 10 minutes drive from Colchester North Station, a bit more if you get stuck behind one of those drivers on the A134 who goes at a steady 38miles an hour
It’s a freeouse, and on the bar today were Adnams Mosaic Pale Ale, Woodford Wherry, and London Pride, with a blackboard showing that Timothy Taylor’s Landlord was up next. Which was nice.
A great addition to Colchester town centre’s real ale pubs.
Fairly safe choice on our most recent visit.
A tricky few years for the pub, but as of our June 2015 visit, several Essex real ales on offer.
Apocalypse Brau, a mix of Great Heck’s ‘legendary’ ‘Yakima IPA’ and their ‘Patrick’ Irish Stout was in cracking form, with Brass Castle’s Bad Kitty and Hazelnut Mild not far behind.

Excellent beers and excellent food in a lovely pub in a beautiful location.
We made a couple of off-peak visits to the XXXth Colchester Beer Festival this year – the members-only preview evening on the Monday, and a tea-time visit later in the week.
